Talan recently graduated from Columbia River High School in Vancouver, Washington. He is the recipient of the Mike Wallace Scholarship, funded by CBS and administered by The NATAS Foundation.

In high school Talan joined a handful of students to change their school’s television news division to a multiplatform organization reaching thousands within and beyond the school’s walls. As anchor of The Rapids Report, Talan interviewed local leaders and state officials and moderated civic panels, looking through the lenses of school district issues and student concerns. His reporting, he says, made him feel empowered to “hold truth to power and advance meaningful dialog in my community.”
